Scripture for the day: “All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” – which means, “God with us.” Matt. 1:22-23
Grace Received: I had a wonderful conversation today with a retired man (career Army) about the book “Not a Fan” by Kyle Idelman, that he saw on my desk. Turns out he recently got a copy and is reading it now. The sub-title, “Becoming a Completely Committed Follower of Jesus” captured his attention. He said, “Five years ago I would have looked right past it without a second thought. Not now.” We often talk about the saving grace of God when we hear the story of a sinner who becomes a saint. The growth we experience in our journey with Jesus is also a gift of God’s grace. He continues to transform us, grow us, mature us. It’s grace that moves us not just from sinner to saint, but from fan to true follower. We call that ‘growth in grace.’ It’s what causes a man to speak of the difference between where he was 5 years ago, and where he is today in his relationship with Jesus. Great things going on!!!
If you are in town next week, don’t miss our Christmas Eve Service at 6:00. Several of our teenagers will be helping lead us in worship and the offering we receive that night will go to relief efforts in the Philippines. Don’t miss it!
Grace Shared: “One hundred religious persons knit into a unity by careful organization do not constitute a church any more than eleven dead men make a football team. The first requisite is life, always.” A. W. Tozer
Our life together is about much more than a large group of people being in the same building at the same time. It’s about following Jesus together in intentional, disciple-making relationships. This happens in smaller groups like Sunday School classes, home based Grace-Shared Groups, coffee shop Bible studies, etc. If you are not yet part of a group like this but would like to be, please contact Joe Voight: joevoight@phoenixoftn.
Saturday Jan. 25 – Church membership class from 9am-noon
Grace Extended: THANK YOU to all who helped make the 2013 Drive Thru Nativity a fantastic weekend! We had over 2,300 experience the story of Jesus on our campus this year. Take a moment to pray especially for those who have not yet started the Jesus-following life. Special thanks to Mike Rucker and MI Engraving for designing and providing the ornaments again this year, and to Derek & Deborah Cooke for leading the Drive Thru efforts. Great job!!!
If you have a good story from this year’s drive thru nativity (or started attending Grace after coming to one in previous years) please write it up and send it to pastorsteve@
