Scripture for the day

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7

Grace Received

Last week’s VBS was incredible. Records were set in every area. Highest single night attendance – 195. Total number of kids who attended at least one night – 258. Number of teen and adult volunteers – 150. Amount given in offering – over $1,600. Kids who responded to an invitation to follow Jesus – 47!! On Sunday morning parents and grandparents all over the sanctuary literally took a stand, committing or re-committing to being the primary spiritual influencers for their kids/grandkids.  While some of these things can be measured, the grace of God which makes all of this possible is beyond measure. Thank God for his amazing, incredible, unconditional and immeasurable grace!

Baptism class this Wednesday night at 7:00. If you or your children haven’t been baptized and are interested this is for you! We encourage parents and kids to attend this class together. If you plan to attend, please let me know: pastorsteve@clarksvillegrace.org

Grace Shared

When we talk about grace shared we’re talking about relationships within the body of Christ, the family of God. It’s about discipleship, but also about bearing each others burdens, and celebrating each other’s victories. In the last week grace-shared has looked like visits to hospital rooms, help with childcare, encouraging messages sent on Facebook, and Sunday School classes praying for each other. It has looked like parents working together to help their kids navigate the murky waters of adolescence, and small groups meeting in homes all over our city to share life and apply the Word. There are many names (and stories we don’t have room to tell) behind each of these descriptions but these are the kinds of things that are always happening between Sundays with the people of Grace. Keep it up!

This coming Sunday (Aug 4) will be Brandon Estep’s last day as our interim Worship Arts Pastor. He will soon be returning for his Jr. year at Trevecca Nazarene University where he will be working as a resident assistant, and will be leading worship in their chapel services. It has been good to have him in this role since March and I think it would be appropriate to express our thanks for his ministry among us.  I encourage you to write a note, send an e-mail, or pick up a card and bring it with you Sunday.

We will be having a church membership class on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 9-noon. Childcare will be provided but we need to know how many people are coming. Please call the church office or e-mail Pastor Steve if you plan to attend.

Grace Extended

This coming Saturday we will be having our annual Back to School Block Party from 4-6 pm.  There will be inflatables, food, games, and an opportunity to meet our neighbors. We’d love to see you here!

Last week during VBS our kids also brought in a bunch of school supplies. This year we will be blessing Northeast Elementary with what is received. There is still time to contribute! Backpacks, paper, pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, shaving cream (just seeing if you are paying attention), tissues, and binders would be appreciated.
