Ash Wednesday

Lent 2013 at Grace
This year for Lent we are focusing on fasting (Matthew 6:16-18). Throughout scripture, individuals and communities fasted and prayed to increase intimacy with God, seek direction for major decisions, intercede for the salvation of those who were not in a right relationship with God, overcome specific problems, seek protection, guidance, etc.  From Ash Wednesday (Feb 13) to Easter (March 31) we are encouraging everyone at Grace to participate in a corporate fast every Friday to pray specifically for those who are not yet followers of Jesus. Some will fast the entire day, others for one meal or two. For those who have never fasted it would be good to start with one meal in the early weeks of Lent and perhaps increase that to two meals, all day, or even longer as we move toward Easter. As we pray for new followers of Jesus, we are at the same time seeking how God might want us to be involved in nurturing new believers in their walk with Christ.
