Scripture for the day: “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” Titus 2:11-14
Grace Received: Living with Jesus is both yes and no. It’s yes to the things that bring us closer to Him, bring Him honor, bring us life and purity and holiness. It is yes to love, yes to forgiveness, yes to self-control, yes to a Spirit-filled, Spirit-led life. But it is also no. No to what is not of God. No to a life driven by our passions. Not to uncontrolled service of self. No to hate or harboring bitterness. It is the gift of God’s grace that teaches us how to know when to say “yes” and when to say “no.” That direction, nudging, revealing and inviting presence of God that He gives to teach us how to live is all gift, and all grace. In His grace, how is God teaching you today?
Grace Shared: One Sunday a month Christian Ayles isn’t at Grace. He’s not sleeping in or working. He’s not playing golf, fishing, or doing yard work at home. He’s not here because one Sunday a month he sits with Jim Wallace so Jim’s wife Ann can come to the service. This is a beautiful picture of selfless service for the good of others in the body. It is love in action, compassion with shoes on. It is a glimpse of grace shared, an example of how the people around here are living out their walk with Jesus and I love it!
Grace sharing as a way of life together is becoming more and more a part of our DNA. Last week a family that has only been attending a few weeks saw the request that went out for a window AC unit for a single mom at Grace. Grace shared. Need met. Praise God!
Congratulations to Matt Rucker who represented the TN District as a golfer last weekend at TNT at TNU. He was our districts representative in competition with the entire Southeast region and shot a 41. Great job Matt!
We welcome Tammy Hicks who became a member of Grace last Sunday.
Grace Extended: As you know by now, we are on a mission to reach 1% of the more than 100,000 people in in our community who do not attend church anywhere. Sunday night I received an e-mail from Patti Moore that said this: “Does it count if someone goes to church even if it is not at Grace? A friend of mine is going to Fellowship UMC. She started last Sunday!” Due to Patti’s influence this friend who was formerly un-churched is no longer in that category. I say praise the Lord and of course it counts! We rejoice every time this happens whether it leads the lost to Grace or to one of our sister churches. Keep looking for and seizing the opportunities God puts across your path – it could make an eternal difference.
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THIS SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
