Our Spiritual Diet
“People might be thinking much about the eternal destiny of their souls nowadays, but they sure are getting better educated about their physical bodies on earth.”
Many believe that energy levels, emotional stability, and even clarity of thought can be dramatically affected by what we eat.
More and more of us are becoming aware of how important diet, nutrition, and chemical balance are within our bodies.
Have you ever heard the statement, “You are what you eat?”
Is it safe to say that we can all agree that what we take into our bodies affects how we think, feel, and live?
“Maria’s testimony”
“No matter how we fell about the negatives of fats and carbohydrates and the pluses of fruits and vegetables we can’t deny that our bodies operate according to physical laws.”
Some consequences are:
- Health problems (various)
- Energy levels.
- Mood swings.
“Even though we are complex physical beings, we are more essentially and importantly spiritual beings.”
Isaiah 55:1-2
“Although there is a general theme in scripture that only salvation through Jesus Christ satisfies the spiritual longing we all have, there is a more specific application of the references in this passage.”
There is an important principle from which no one is exempt. Just as physical problems result from improper diet and vitamin deficiencies, spiritual problems often result when we are spiritually undernourished.
“You are what you eat” is all true in the spiritual realm, but many believers are living in a state of denial about the real cause of their problems.
How can we fight “the good fight” and stand strong against our enemy Satan if our spiritual vital signs are precariously low?
How can God’s grace work powerfully in us when we cut ourselves off from the very food God has prepared for our souls?
Statistics from Jim
- Only one third of all churchgoing, professing Christians read their bibles even once a week. Do we know what the cost was for many so we could not only have a bible but read it freely?
- The practice of private prayer and collective praying as a church has dropped to an all-time low in too many places. How can we encourage one another as Grace Church of the Nazarene to pray more privately and collectively? Can we ever pray too much?
May we always encourage each other to eat at His table. Psalm 107:9 and Rev 3:20.
“The lack of spiritual well-being also explains why there is so little praise and far too much complaining in the lives of so many.”
Psalm 63:5
Have you ever enjoyed a great meal and paid tribute to the chef who prepared it?
Psalm 34:8
As the Body of Christ feeding ourselves and others; as well as teaching others to feed themselves and others is of the utmost importance.
“Believers who don’t continually drink the pure milk of the Word of God remain babyish an unstable because they are neglecting the spiritual food that will help them grow.”
One of God’s spiritual guidelines for spiritual growth is 1 Peter 2:2.
A deeper principle is 1 Cor. 3:2.
“To grow into spiritual maturity, we need to be conscious every day of the needs of our inner man and the scriptural reminder that ‘it is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace.”
Satan is always trying to cut us off from our food supply with distractions, discouragements, and substitutes keeping us from our daily food supply. Satan knows all to well we have been called into fellowship with Jesus Christ.
1 Cor. 1:9
Therefore is it any wonder that the Lord calls out urgently to His people to carefully listen to this message.
Isaiah 55:1-2
He invites us to the only table overflowing with victory, satisfaction, and power-as well as so much more.
Don’t let Satan block you from receiving God’s grace when God is so urgently calling you.
Psalm 34:8, 22:26
