Gifts and Outreach Ministries (continued)
Last week we began talking about Outreach Ministries and the 5 groups that the Spiritual Gifts fall into.
- Facilitating Gifts: Leadership, administration, teaching, and giving.
- Ministering Gifts: Serving, encouraging, helping, and pastoral care.
- The Sign Gifts: Faith. Healing, miracles, and discernment of spirits.
- The Communication Gifts
- Prophecy is the gift to proclaim God’s message or interpret God’s truth to a given occasion and for the individuals concerned. 1 Corinthians 13:2, 14:1-5, 22-25. 2 Peter 1:12-21
- Knowledge is the unusual ability to form new ideas, thought or processes. In a warning from Paul to Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:20-21. Wisdom is the unusual knowledge on how and when to apply those ideas. Colossians 2:2-5, Psalms 111:10. In 1 Kings 3:12, it talks about having “a wise and discerning heart”. Proverbs 13:20 says “he who walks with the wise grows wise”. James 3:13
- Languages is the gift of having the words to say to people who have another tongue different from your own.
- Interpretation of languages is god’s message communicated to people who cannot understand the original utterance.
- Church growth gifts
- Evangelist is focused on the goal of the Church’s mission: making disciples (Matthew 28:19). An evangelist also may help other Christians with their testimony Ephesians 4:11-13.
- Apostle was technical name of the missionary in the Greek speaking churches of the first two centuries. It is the gift needed by general church leaders who must constantly push the church out into new areas geographically and functionally.
